Gatekeepers of Middletown

WHAT IS A GATEKEEPER?

Gatekeepers are trusted community members that have a background in the local opportunities and services. From coaches to barbers, librarians or school staff, they are key people in connecting youth-in-need to available supports and resources.

HOW DOES THIS PROCESS WORK?

Gatekeeping is the process of empowering systems of interpersonal trust at the community level to better connect people to resources that exist at the local, regional, state and national level. Gatekeeping is based on the observation that people in need turn to those they trust. By highlighting, supporting, and cultivating those existing bonds, we can build healthier, better-supported communities.

National

National resources can provide valuable funding, consistency, and research paramount to large-scale systemic change across state boundaries. Examples include SAMHSA, Trans Lifeline, NAMI.

State

CT Programs provide funding and services to regional agencies and communicates information from the national level. Examples include United Way 2-1-1, Husky Health Insurance, Favor CT.

Regional

Regionally, communities are brought together in a unified effort to create healthy environments for families to live full lives. Examples include Women and Families Services, CT Valley Hospital, Urban League.

Gatekeeper

Gatekeepers act as community liaisons to the services and supports that can help families-in-need get support. They are unique and an integral piece to a better service system and brighter communities.
